About the Class
A set series of postures, always in the same order, beginning with a sequence know as Sun Salutations, moving from one pose to the next in a continual flow where there is one breath for each movement. This vigorous practice produces intense internal heat that creates a stronger body, a detoxifying sweat and a calmer mind.It was developed by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century and is often promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga. Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches, of which asana or physical yoga poses is only one. It is the inspiration for most Vinyasa and Power Yoga styles.

In November 2004, I attended my first Ashtanga yoga class. It was both challenging and captivating, despite the initial discouragement. Something drew me back, setting me on a transformative journey.
